actually I made other experiences :-)
When I was using a straight pipe with no muffler, people would turn their head to me and a lot of old people smiled at me (including once when I passed a funeral!!)!!
Younger people all looked rather annoyed by the noise.
When I stopped somewhere some old man once came to me and asked what kind of bike that was and told stories about their old BSA, NSU and such, it was rather fun ;-)
BUT some younger one came once too and looked not very happy at all, asking if that pipe was stock, and if I didn't think it is a bit too loud (which it was alright, but that was on closed road with no houses round!!
